Minimum Rates in Norway 2023

None of the Scandinavian countries has a single binding minimum rate applicable to everyone. The exception is Norway, which by virtue of various collective agreements, has set minimum rates for certain industries. From 2023, the minimum rates in Norway have changed. Every employee will be able to count on pay rises, among others, from from the construction, transport, cleaning and tourism industries, as well as the fishing and shipbuilding industries.

Stay in Norway

When entering Norway, you need to present an ID card or passport, however, it is recommended to present the latter document.

Pay attention to the validity of your document and its technical condition to avoid problems when crossing the border. As an EU citizen, you are entitled to stay in Norway for 3 months as a tourist without applying for a residence permit.For jobseekers who have registered with the Norwegian Labor Office, the stay may be up to 6 months. After this period, an application for permanent residence must be immediately filed with the Norwegian Office for Foreigners – Utenriksdepartementet

Minimum Rates in Norway – New Amounts

According to statistics, however, immigrants earn on average a little less, i.e. about NOK 45 000 / EUR 4 124. Hourly rates are most often divided into the following categories:

  • for young workers up to 20 years of age
  • without qualifications
  • specialists
  • skilled workers.

Construction industry

The regulations apply to every employee performing construction work.

  • with professional qualifications – NOK 220 (EUR 20)
  • without qualifications and without work experience – NOK 198 (EUR 18)
  • with work experience – NOK 206 (EUR 19)
  • under-age worker – NOK 132 (EUR 12)

Transport industry

  • bus driver – NOK 174 (EUR 16)
  • truck driver – NOK 185 (EUR 17)

Cleaning services

  • every adult worker – NOK 196 (EUR 18)
  • under-age worker – NOK 146 (EUR 14)

Tourism and gastronomy

  • 16-year-old worker – NOK 114 (EUR 11)
  • 17-year-old worker – NOK 123 (EUR 12)
  • 18-year-old worker – NOK 137 (EUR 13)
  • workers over 18 years of age – NOK 175 (EUR 16)

Agriculture and horticulture

In this industry, the minimum rates are different for permanent and seasonal workers.

Permanent workers:

  • without vocational education – NOK 149 (EUR 14)
  • under 18 years of age – NOK 118 (EUR 11)

Seasonal workers:

  • under 18 years of age – NOK 109 (EUR 10)
  • over 18 years of age employed up to 12 weeks – NOK 129 (EUR 12)
  • over 18 years of age employed for a period of 12-24 weeks – NOK 134 (EUR 13)

Fishing:

  • Production worker without experience – NOK 193 (EUR 18)
  • Skilled worker – NOK 205 (EUR 19)

Electrical industry:

  • Skilled worker – NOK 225 (27 EUR)
  • Helper without experience – NOK 172 (EUR 16)

Norway’s minimum rate laws are designed to protect workers from dishonest employers. The earnings in individual industries can of course be much higher.
