Every trip abroad, whether for tourism or for earnings, requires proper preparation! As you know, baggage restrictions depend on the means of transport. Always think about what to take with you. Below is a list of things for going to work abroad.

Sometimes a trip involves even a few months of absence from home. Packing for a week’s vacation can be problematic, let alone for such a long period of time! What to take with you? The easiest answer is that – only what is needed. Do you know what you will really need abroad?

List of things for going to work abroad
First of all, documents
Documents are the first things to remember when packing for a trip abroad, and it often slips out of our minds in the heat of preparing clothes and other things! What documents should be taken?
- Identity document – ID card or passport (check till when it is valid!);
- Driving license (if we have);
- Employment contract / other document confirming our employment;
- Tickets for the plane / bus / car registration card – depending on what we are going with;
- ICE card – it’s worth having contact details to our loved ones in our wallet, in case something happens to us;
- Medical records – if we have any chronic diseases and / or are taking regular medications;
- List of important addresses / telephone numbers – before leaving, it is worth looking for the nearest diplomatic posts / embassies or other, for example, Polish communities organizations;
- Payment cards and bank account numbers – it is worth having our account number written down somewhere, to be able to quickly dictate it to the employer.
How to rent an apartment in France?
Important! If you are going abroad only for seasonal jobs, open a foreign currency account in your bank – you will avoid currency conversion of salary and formalities related to setting up an account in a foreign bank.
Things that you can buy only being at home
There is nothing to complain about the assortment in foreign stores, but each of us has our favorite (and sometimes necessary) products that can be bought only at home. Before leaving, it is worth making a small stock, e.g. of our favorite and proven cosmetics, and in particular, medicines – especially if they are prescription medicines. The doctor should be able to issue a prescription for more packages without any problems.
What else is worth remembering? Clothing and household items
Clothes are a very individual matter. However, before you start packing, consider about this:
- What country are you going to? If you are going, for example, to Scandinavia, sweaters and sweatshirts will definitely be much more useful than 10 pairs of shorts;
- Do you need work clothes? If so, we advise you to focus primarily on comfortable shoes!
- How long are you going for? It is worth taking this into account and thinking whether we will need, for example, a winter jacket.
What will be at the place?
An important issue that needs to be analyzed is also what you will find at the place. Before you decide to leave, you should find out if your future apartment (or room) is properly equipped. You can then give up a lot of unnecessary luggage, such as: kitchen accessories, bedding, towels, or limit yourself to only your favorite cup or pillow.
Sample list of things for going to work abroad
It is worth making a list of things that you will take with you when packing, so that you do not forget anything when packing for the return journey.
- clothes: T-shirts, warm sweatshirts, trousers, rain jacket
- comfortable shoes (at least two pairs)
- underwear
- work clothes
- cosmetics
- prescription medicines that you are taking on a regular basis
- kitchen set: plate, mug, bowl, cutlery
- two towels
- bedding
- phone, laptop, chargers
- favorite book
- documents: ID card, driving license, car registration card, employment contract, EHIC card, contact card to a loved one, contact card to helpful institutions
- money: cash and payment.
What are you going abroad with?
Finally, you need to take into account the means of transport. If you are driving your own car, you will get a lot more space and thus, more things to take. Unfortunately, transport by bus or plane limits you a bit, but nothing is lost! All you need is good organization, a few packing tricks and everything should fit – for example, T-shirts can be rolled into rolls that take up less space.
So if you now know what you will be traveling with, you can more or less determine how much you can take – just one large suitcase or several cardboard boxes? On this basis, you can start planning the packing.
