AI in recruitment process – pros and cons

Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be confidently called a revolution of the last few years. It all started from discussions in science and IT circles, and now literally everyone is benefiting from AI solutions. How has the situation on the labor market changed in the era of AI? Next, we will get acquainted in detail with the topic of AI in the recruitment process.

Technological solutions have been accompanying the recruitment industry for years. Bots, virtual assistant / recruiter, a proposed candidates’ system – all these tools are related to artificial intelligence.

With the appearance of, among others, ChatGPT, the range of AI capabilities has expanded several times. At this point, a large number of companies are considering the implementation and adaptation of AI solutions that will greatly facilitate individual processes. On the other hand, similar changes cause anxiety and fear that AI will be able to completely replace the employee.

Artificial intelligence is only at the stage of development and improvement, so it’s hard to tell at the moment whether AI will be able to completely replace human work. This is certainly another step towards improving the work, e.g. in the recruitment industry.

How to use AI in the recruitment process?

Next, we will see on specific examples how AI improves the recruitment processes:

AI in recruitment processShort description

Initial recruitment interview, e.g. via a chatbotThe next stage of selection, which will ensure that perfectly matched candidates go to a real recruitment interview
Evaluation / Verification of the candidate according to the indicated criteriaAI is able to evaluate whether the candidate’s qualifications / skills are suitable for the position applied for
Simultaneous creation of databases as needed for several different recruitmentsProcessing a huge amount of information, allow to create several databases at the same time
Analysis of the career path of a potential candidateBased on the available data, AI is able to predict how the candidate’s career will develop in the coming years
Keyword analysis in job advertisementsAI is able to analyze / compare all available job offers on various portals, and on this basis select the most popular keywords
Tailoring the content of the offer to a specific candidateAnalysis of trends and users’ behavior (including potential candidates), and then creating an offer based on previously obtained data

Advantages and disadvantages of AI in the recruitment process

As it can be seen, the scope of work of artificial intelligence exceeds human capabilities, especially when we are talking about analyzing or processing huge amounts of data. Without a doubt, this is the main advantage of AI in the recruitment process. Thanks to instant calculations, AI is able to provide recruiters with the selected CVs and helpful information in terms of adapting to current trends in the labor market. Apart from that, the advantages include:

  • saving time (both for the employee and for the entire recruitment process)
  • task prioritization (employee can concentrate on more complicated tasks)
  • streamlining recruitment processes
  • elimination of cognitive errors

But! There will also be disadvantages of using AI in the recruitment process:

  • lack of context (artificial intelligence is not able to perfectly catch the context of a statement or job description, especially when mental shortcuts, abbreviations or synonyms are frequently used).
  • protection of personal data (there is no 100% guarantee that data processed by AI, especially personal data of candidates, are properly stored and not used against them).
  • reduction of jobs (there is a risk that AI will be able to replace some positions, especially at the lower level).
  • lack of appropriate skills in the use of AI (training offer in the field of AI is just being created).

Undoubtedly, AI is able to significantly improve and speed up individual stages of the recruitment processes. Although, as it can be seen, there are also a number of risks worth keeping in mind.

Implementation of the previously mentioned solutions is only a matter of time. However, it is worth being aware that artificial intelligence is not able to 100% replace human work, its primary goal is to support at various stages of the recruitment processes.
